 In addition to new bone formation anteriorly this lateral view of the lumbar spine shows prominent marginal osteophyte formation and characteristic scalloping of the posterior margins of the vertebral bodies Although such scalloping may be seen in the dorsal spine, the lumbar spine is most commonly affected.
